Trail Confession- Bull Run Regional Park- 10 miles- Friday May 4, 2012
Today’s conversation with my buddy Alison was minimal, which sometimes is exactly what you need…to hear the leaves under your feet, the wind in the trees and just be in that moment. We did mention how much beter it is to pee in the woods than on the road
and we saw this little guy… he is about the size of a pinky finger. Life is full of amazing creatures, nothing better than pausing to acknowledge what a miracle all life is.

Do you enjoy running trails?
When was the last time you saw something really interesting on a run?

I love running on trails and am very lucky to live near a State park with a very runner friendly trail system. I try to make it there 4-5 times a week. Weirdest thing I had seen? Nothing much…..just snakes!
That is great that you live so close to trails… I have similar circumstances.. so blessed to have state parks two minutes from my house. Snakes are cool!!!
OMGosh. I love that little guy.
As does my shouting 6 year old
haha! I have a shouting 6 yo as well.. he is literally jumping off a wall right now..oy..one of the many reason trail running is essential..
Have a wonderful weekend!
I don’t know how you see these things! There we are, crashing through the trees, and you spot an orange speck that I would have stepped on! xxx
I am just very sensitive when it comes to nature… not sensitive like I cry all the time (although I do) but it’s more .. hmm, just very in tune with my surroundings.. I see much more and everything seems very clear. Thank you for acknowledging my little gift! xxx
I still laugh at the “sticks and dirt” comment Alison made a while back on here.
She likes to make fun of me… I laugh with her, I’m pretty cooky.
I still laugh at that comment, too!
The little guy is a red spotted newt (Notophthalmus viridescens), in the red eft (land) stage–more typically one would see them in woodland ponds in the adult stage. (If, like me, one had a predilection for wading through woodland ponds.)
thank you Stu… I love learning about nature…happy Trail running.
I am loving trail running more and more. I have started making a concerted effort to get in one/week. This week we managed to get lost, but that’s half the fun, isn’t it?
What is Alison going to do with herself once you leave?!
That is great! Aren’t they wonderful? Yes, I have been lost a few times myself.. not good when you have to pick your kids up from school! haha somehow I made it, muddy, but made it. What will Alison do? She says that I am easily replaceable.. haha.. that is her way of saying she will miss me as much as I miss her. Don’t let her her tough girl exterior fool you.
Trails were my first love. Can’t really maneuver the stroller around them, so I either have to stick to paved or just hoof it on pavement. I do treasure the time I get solo on the trails though, even if the time spent on them is few and far between.
Yes, the stroller on trails is difficult.. When I was in that stage I found a park that had wide flat unpaved “trails” I still got the natural beauty but could schlep the stroller.. it was bouncy and slow, but still fun to be outside. We need to find you a off road double stroller!
Thank you for your comments Natalie, always appreciated very much.
I am absolutely terrified of reptiles! I’ve come across interesting people on my runs, not things or reptiles as of yet (PHEW!!!)
All the trails near me are paved, but occasionally you see some cool stuff.
BTW, your comment on my post made me laugh (out loud. at the gym.) My house is a small urban house that pretty much always looks like the FBI tossed it. You’d feel right at home. ;o)
We have that in common, among other things.. except right now we are trying to sell our house.. can you imagine how nervous and cranky I am trying to keep this place clean all of the time ? It’s awful.. seriously how do people who live in the perfectly clean houses do it?
LOOOOVE my trails. We see creatures all the time. I guess i am used to it now. Good thing! haha.
