Miss Zippy recently did a post called “Tell me about your 2012.” I loved finding out more about her and now, inspired by her candor, I’m answering her questions, as well.
Best Race Experience- This would would definitely be running the North Face Endurance Challenge 50K in DC. This race was my first ultra and crossing the finish line was euphoric!
Best Run- My best run was the Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon back in March. The temperature was cold and I always feel light on my feet and strong when it’s that cold. At the starting line, my friend Alison said you can do a 7:45 pace”. I thought she was crazy, but I did it! That morning I actually came in with a 7:42 pace. A true friend believes in you even when you don’t believe in yourself.
Best New Piece of Gear- The best new pieces of gear I’ve acquired are my Oiselle Roga Shorts and my Saucony Cortana 2
The Roga shorts are like running in silk boxers, and with the Cortanas I’ve run more miles free of knee pain, which in the past has been a lingering issue for me.
Best piece of running advice you’ve received- This is funny, because people are always trying to offer their two cents, and my feeling is that everyone is different. I don’t have one piece of advice that stands out, but anything and everything that my friend Alison has ever told me is accurate, so I follow her advise most of the time, when I don’t, I always end up saying “you told me so”. TriBeccaTO and Quadrathon recently gave me the Runner’s World Book Run Less Run Faster although, I’ll caveat that I have modified the book’s training plan a bit to suit my needs; so far, it is working for me personally.
Most Inspirational Runner- Do I have to pick one? One moment that stands out as inspirational to me was when Shiawase Life PR’ed at the Baltimore Marathon and when Pavement Runner ran a muddy 50 miler. More runners who inspires me daily are Pace of Me and Kris Lawrence, not just because they’re fast, but because they’re incredible Moms who follow their dreams and yet keep it all balanced. I feel like I left out so many! Ugh, I read so many blogs that freakin’ inspire me!
If I could sum up my year in a few words- That’s easy… A marathon; it had it’s highs and lows.
OK- now it’s your turn… Tell me about your 2012!
Oh, by the way if you drink Nuun (I made a holiday punch using Lemon Lime) they are offering my readers a discount, from now until midnight on Sunday, December 16th, 2012 you can use the code ‘HOLIDAYHYDRATION’ to get 20% off hydration tablets and most accessories.

AWWW Lisa, I heart you! Wow, I feel totally honored to be mentioned – you are one of my biggest inspirations <3
It was a great moment, that feeling when someone you know and have followed gets such a big PR in a marathon. Still to this day, it makes me smile for you! xoxo
i just can’t get over how beautiful you look in that picture!!!
Linds, you just made my year… I think I need to add that in this post. It was a rare moment, in pictures I can look like I have a forced smile; running while getting my photo taken is so different, I’m just being myself, just doing what I love. Thank you for your compliment.. it’s means a lot to me.
Love this and that picture of you!! Gorgeous! Funny because I’m finishing up my post answering Miss Zippy’s questions which will be posted tomorrow
Thank you Christine! my goodness I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful #SistersInBlog I can’t wait to read your post tomorrow!
First of all, gorgeous picture! However I expect no less from you
I love posts like these! Great way to get to know bloggers a bit better!!! & honestly you may be one of my most inspirational runners!!! I hope to finally meet you when I’m in CA for the SF marathon!
I meant what I said in my comment about the SF marathon. I hope you take me up on the offer. I want to be there for you, in anyway that I can.
i appreciate it SOSOSOSO much. As it gets closer we’ll figure it all out
my 2012 rocked because I FINALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH YOGA!
You did the Dahlgren Trail Half? I signed up and will do it in 2013. Did you like it? I actually live 2 minutes away from the start line…yes, in the middle of nowhere!!
Yes, did it last year! I thought you lived down that way. I came in third overall female and even won money! It is a fantastic race, small but well organized.
This was so much fun to read! My RLRF book has pages falling out. I’ve used it for all 7 of my marathons. Love it! But it makes me tired. Ha!
You use this plan as well? Ahh, yes the workouts are not easy are they? So hard in fact that I have to add in an easy run or I would give up running all together.
I just did mine too! I love reading things like this. It’s like having a chat over coffee about all things running.
Btw-gorgeous pic!!!!!
Heading over there to read right now! Looking forward to reading about you!
This is such a lovely snapshot of you and thank you so much for the mentions! That Dahlgren race was awesome, except for the footing which sucked!!! I love the Run Less, Run Faster book…used it for my first 50K and my marathon PR. Thanks for the nuun discount code!
Thanks for playing along with me! I love your relationship with Alison–the mutual respect you guys have is awesome. And you totally rocked North Face, so I’m not surprised that topped your list. Now I have to go check out that half–I’m intrigued!
Great pic of you, btw!
How valuable to have a friend like Alison! I need one of those in my life.
I’m looking forward to writing my recap too, these posts are always fun to read. I had forgotten about your 50k, that is definitely a highlight!
I didn’t realize you were starting to use RLRF. I modify it too, but really like the general guidelines. Congrats on such a great year!
I ran my first 5k and first obstacle course/mud run in 2012. It has really been the year that’s kick started my passion for fitness and healthy living! I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store for me…gonna break down some more barriers (a 10k, more mud runs etc.)
Wow. Thanks for the shout out. Looks like the NFEC was good to us this year.
Happy Holidays.
My favorite race was the Mesa Falls half-marathon in Idaho. I think my favorite moment was seeing my children at the finish line. I almost didn’t finish because it was so good to see them that I started crying.
i just put mine up on the blog tonight
you had a great year! and love the rogas-problem for me is i have so many new clothes-i couldn’t pick just one! can’t wait to try your cocktail!
I LOVED reading your answers about your year. What an amazing 2012 you’ve had and so much to be proud of. I’m most proud of finishing my first half Ironman this year 20 minutes faster than I planned and exceeding my time goals for all 3 sports. I am also proud of my finish at Marune Corps Marathon. I didn’t run close to my goal but persevered through 25 mph winds and 11 days off before the race due to an injury. Plus the race was just inspiring. Made me so proud to be an American and have the health and ability to run. I can’t wait to continue following your journey in 2013 and see all the year will have in store for you! You inspire me!
fun survey! congrats again on that 50-miler. i cannot even imagine!
You have SO much to be proud of! I think you’re wonderful, and I’m lookingfrward to seeing what you do next.
This is such a fun post!! I love everything about your 2012 – except you moving away from me! Hope 2013 brings you many speedy races and lots of happiness! xoxo
7:45 for a 1/2 on trails? WOW! Very impressive. I had a great time getting to know you better reading through these answers.
