Save vs.Splurge- Spring Marathon Outfits

You put in months of hard work, sweat, sacrifice, pain and sometimes tears all leading up to one of the biggest days of your life… MARATHON race day.

I know that many of you are like me and plan for quite sometime on what we are going to wear that day. There are many factors that are involved. It is about clothing performance, comfort and, one last really important component…. if we look good. When you look good in your outfit, you feel good and, if you feel good, that comes through on your performance. There are times in your life when you can splurge and other times when you need to save, but I feel like you don’t need to compromise the way you look just because you may not be able to go all out for new gear.

My mission was to find two outfits similar in look but with vastly different price points. Here an example of Save vs. Splurge. One is $63 and other is $256, I bet most of you will get it right but, let’s see if you can guess which one is which.

Outfit A

Outfit B

  1. Outfit B is totally the more expensive one since the YMX arm sleeves alone are nearly 1/2 of the $63! :) Love both of them.

  2. I’m going with A. So cute too!

  3. Well, I like the first outfit better than the second, but I’m to familiar with any of the products. My guess is the second one is more expensive as the socks appear to have a logo versus plain.

  4. I absolutely love this post. I am a frugal runner and consistently find target walmart and old navy running gear to out perform some of the pricey brands

  5. Love outfit A!! Gotta have the pink!

  6. Fun post! Definitely outfit B is the expensive one!

  7. I am going to say B since I see CEP socks (love mine, but they were certainly $$$$)and the top looks like a Lulu SS swiftly

  8. Outfit 2 is clearly more expensive just from the labels that can be seen. That said, outfit one is cute and flattering and if it all fits well, no reason to go for the name brand stuff…

  9. Honestly, I have no idea. :)

I tend to buy whatever’s on sale. If I had the money to splurge, I’d go with a reliable brand, but I haven’t done that in years because it pains me to pay anything more than $20 for running gear. I prefer to be called ‘thrifty’… ;)

    • Natalie, I am a proud thrifty girl as well.. when you are a military spouse I guess you have to be.. haha!

  10. Love A! And I don’t know my products… but originally I was going with A until I read everyone’s comments.

  11. Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says:

Outfit B is more expensive … Pretty sure that’s a Lulu top. Both are super cute … Just goes to show you don’t have to drop serious dough to look awesome for your race photos. Great post!

  12. I like outfit A better, but oufit B has to be the more expensive attire. Fun post!

  13. First, you look great in both! Second, what a great idea. Love me some Target pricing. So which have you decided on?

    • MZ, Neither, haha, just did it for this the post ( most of it I had already). Racingtales is pacing me for Shamrock and pretty sure we are wearing our Mini Kilts (unless there is some wardrobe malfunction) for St. Patty’s day. I use Target athletic wear all of the time. If you run as much as we do I don’t have time to do laundry everyday and need clean clothes! :) I simple can not afford Lululemon everyday, but do have a few pieces that I love.

I'd Love to Hear From You, Comments Welcome
